About Me

Christopher James , artist, teacher and author states, "Almost everything we do really well in life, we teach ourselves." I agree. I never went to art school but through books, workshops and personal obsession I learned to make photographs. Photography has treated me well. It has provided me with a richness I could never duplicate on Wall Street.

I was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1948 but have been a teenager for over 40 years. This has something to do with working at Ann Arbor Community High School where getting old is prohibited. I am married to the lovely Marcia Schaffer and have four remarkable children, Kalynn, Nick, Rocky and Josh. Kalynn, Rocky and Josh are also photographers and Nick is my favorite baseball player.

I am employed with the Ann Arbor Public Schools as Court Liaison/Social Worker/Teacher. I also teach in the Visual Arts Department at Washtenaw Community College. Lastly, my friend Mike and I clean and seal decks in the summer.
